How To # 2
The Making of Sheena, Queen of the Jungle
Making her American debut in 1937, Sheena was the first heroine of comic books, and the first sex symbol. I had a nude female model kit called Eve that I thought had the right body for Sheena, but would need some alterations in order to look like the fierce yet seductive jungle queen. Here’s how I got started...

I started with by creating Sheena’s trademark leopard skin swimsuit out of Milliput white putty. The face of the model was very pretty, but I wanted a stronger expression for Sheena. I had the head from an old model kit of Joseph Michael Linsner’s Dawn that I thought had the right look, and would work better.
Now comes the dusty work. I removed the hair from the Dawn head with a Dremel tool. Next, I cut the arms of the Eve kit into several pieces so that I could reposition them to fit my vision for Sheena. At this point, the kit was a long way from looking like the Queen of the Jungle.
The new head first perfectly, but I would need to sculpt a new left eye because Dawn’s had been obscured by her hair. Here’s how the head looked attached to the body.
