The Birth of Bouncing Boy
I’d been wanting to create a figure of Bouncing Boy for some time. However, his balloon-like shape presented a unique challenge, Rather than customize a male figure, i decided to fashion Bouncing Boy out of odds and ends, and leftovers.
For the body, I just got a simple styrofoam ball from the craft store. I covered it with strips of newspaper and a coat of white glue. After that, I covered the ball with a thin layer of air-hardening clay, also purchased at the craft store. Once the clay was dry, I gave it a light sanding to smooth out any bumps and seams.
Next came a head for Bouncing Boy. I had a leftover female head from a Neomodeltech Generic Vixen kit that was the right size. But the face was too slim. Using Milliput putty, I packed on pounds to give the head a more chubby, well-fed appearance.
Once I attached the head to the ball body, Bouncing Boy began to take shape. I slapped a quick coat of paint onto the face to see how my plumping was coming along. Now I just needed to add arms and legs to complete body.
